My ApproachAs an Integrative Counsellor, I draw on my person centred training to build a safe space for you to talk, ponder and explore what is causing you difficulties, using insights from a psychodynamic approach, Transactional Analysis (TA), when it is appropriate, using Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) tools. Creative tools can be a huge help to ‘speak’ when words may be stuck or not easily accessible.
My area of special interest is trauma and dissociation. As our bodies are often impacted by what is going on inside, in our minds and hearts, I have found it helpful to draw on sensorimotor psychotherapy alongside. My 'counselling map', which I am very happy to share, is the Three Phase Approach (Judith Herman). "It was easy to build rapport with Marcia from day 1. She was personable and easy to speak to. She gave the right balance of speaking and listening, giving practical tools to use in life." - Andrew, 47 |

Opportunities to combine my teaching background with counselling have led to delivering courses on listening, self harm, bereavement and trauma counselling.
I am also a trained facilitator for Healing the Wounds of the Heart group (www.traumahealinginstitute.org). In 2020, in the middle of lockdown, I began my supervision training, having long enjoyed encouraging others in their counselling careers.
